| HOW TO GET
YOUR KID TO LIKE MATHS
Intended mainly for parents and teachers, this takes the
form of a PTA , parent-interview or special-event evening, worth thinking
about for
-
schools who have recently booked MATHMAN and see it as an
opportunity to involve parents in the general math education program..
-
a novelty evening social event to coincide with school ‘Math
Week ‘.
At this presentation, Ken talks about how best to present
math to the child. Many of us adults still have a negative voice about
the subject inside us. If you want to keep it at bay, come along and hear
what you do. Expect a humorous and entertaining address with some magic
thrown in, some surprises and even some shocks to the system. You will
see how we unconsciously push our double standards onto children, how they
react to this process and how we often train children to fail. Ken also
takes a quick look at the language and attitudes of the caregiver(s) in
case it needs adjusting for more effective role-modeling. Ken addresses
the New Curriculum and recent damning government reports. His messages
are powerful and thought provoking. It is, as stated, entirely free, but
if Ken must travel out of Auckland specially, a small donation is asked
for purely to cover fuel costs.
40 minutes + 15min. for questions
Offered on request.
ONE RULE FOR US, ANOTHER FOR KIDS
What we say and do without realizing, can turn our own
darling little sweeties into bullies. Address covers self-esteem (how’s
yours, by the way, while you’re reading this!), how the world of children
operates and what their value system is. There is a correct way and a wrong
way to talk to children. It impacts on parenting and teaching, and could
be the difference between your child falling behind or leaping ahead.
Involves some NLP, some thought-control ideas borrowed from aikido and
karate, and some goal-setting ideas that come from the corporate world.

NEW LOOKS AT PROBLEM SOLVING
Did we forget the strategies we learned in simple arithmetic
while in school? The difference between success and achievement.
What differences really are, why minimum differences are the key to learning,
what problem solving is all about and how it can be applied to the adult
decision making process. This is a fun workshop and has application to
just about everything we do. Ken uses magic and humour to get his points
across.
